"The amazing ligands of the melanocortin system"
Melanocortin receptors are found throughout the body and control a vast array of functions from pigmentation to feeding behavior and body weight regulation. Unlike many other members of the G-protein coupled receptor family that respond to a single agonist, melanocortin receptors are controlled by agonists and antagonists, and the library of signaling continues to grow. I will discuss structural features of these ligands and new insights into the features that control the melanocortin system.
